Cross country teams prepare for Crossroads League championship

The MVNU Men’s Cross Country team recently finished 25th at the All-Ohio Collegiate Championships hosted by Cedarville University at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course last week. Meanwhile, the Lady Cougars finished 33rd out of 42 teams.

The event field included institutions from NCAA Division I, II, III, and the NAIA. The Akron Zips finished first with Ohio University and Malone University (Ohio) placing second and third in the men’s competition with Malone, Ohio University and Shawneee State University (Michigan) taking first, second and third respecively in the women’s pool.

The Cougars top runner, junior Josh Richardson, led MVNU, finishing 55th with a time of 26:05.73 in a field of 569 runners.

Richardson also was named Crossroads League Runner of the Week for his performance in the Otterbein Invitational on Sept. 20.

The Lady Cougars were led by sophomore Annie Winkler who ended with a final time of 24:03.68.

“The race today was a reminder to everyone how great college racing is in the state of Ohio,» coach Chip Wilson said. «It was exciting to see almost 50 colleges and universities represented and around 1,300 runners competing.”

Both Cougar cross country teams will be up and running again on Oct. 17 at the Wilmington College Fall Classic.
