The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to a basement fire at 201 South Main St. around 6:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 25. The 80-year-old structure, owned by John and Mary Lou Montenery, was damaged severely and could potentially need to be torn down because of the weakened foundation.
